Cyclical living is living in sync with the cycles and seasons of YOUR life.
Exactly what cycles and seasons am I talking about?
In my work, I focus on the 4 phases of a menstruating person’s cycle, the 4 primary phases of the moon and the 4 seasons. (Yes grammar queen, I know the rule is to write “four” but I like the number.) They all mirror each other. It’s way cool and way simple.
Why live cyclically?
Do you ever feel:
Like you have a ton of amazing creative ideas and then within a week your creativity fizzles, you’re putting off your big creative projects and getting lost in mundane tasks?
Super social so you plan a get together… then everyone looks at their schedules and can’t do it for a couple weeks… a couple weeks rolls around and you’d rather watch movies alone than hang with your friends?
Up for a focused vigorous workout one day and soon after you’d prefer a slow walk or even to just melt into the couch?
Like the same food that was nourishing a week ago now feels not quite right, maybe too rich or too light?
Yes?! Me too. Most of us feel this way.
The current dominant patriarchal culture we live in values sameness, linear thinking and living, carrying on, bucking up, keep your head up, you know (I’m personally finding how much I value those things too and how it’s an inside job to re-wire and re-claim my true values)…
And we (especially womxn) are NOT linear creatures.
In times past, humans lived in deeper connection with Mama Earth. We HAD to live cyclically. We paid attention to our menstruating bodies, to the moon and the seasons. Because if we didn’t, life would go awry.
Does your life ever feel a little (or a lot) off to you?
Mine did too. Is it completely on track now? Haha. No. But it’s more fulfilling and easeful since I’ve incorporated cyclical living practices into it.
